Your body adapts very quickly to whatever stimulus you apply to it. Thus, if you want to keep on getting results you have to keep on pushing the envelope.
And the main issue here is that continually pushing limits is NOT easy by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, without the right tools it can seem like pushing a boulder up a hill.
Thus, without further delay, here is how to train your mind and body for continual results:
1. Break out of your routine: And we’re not just talking about your fitness routine here. You see, if you constantly try out new things outside of the gym, you will mentally set yourself up to try new things inside of the gym.
2. Quantify the risk: If you’re afraid to try out a new combination of exercises or a new class that is very intense, write down the worst case scenarios. In other words, quantify the risks and make a pro and con list of sorts. More often than not, you will notice how exaggerated your fears are.
3. Visualize, visualize and visualize some more: This is one of the most recommended techniques, yet also one of the most underused. Visualizing what you want to do not only reduces fear, but it also prepares your nervous system to take action.
4. Don’t do it alone: Too often we like to do things all on our own, and while this may seem noble at first glance, there is nothing wrong with seeking support. After all, we are social creatures and a solid partner can diffuse the fear associated with the next level.
5. Chunk the task: If you jump into the deep end in one shot, you may end up in shock. Instead, break down the level you want to achieve into manageable chunks and complete them piecemeal. This will reduce the difficulty of the task and reduce psychological load.
You have an extremely adaptable body, one of the most adaptable organisms on the planet. And if you want to keep on getting results from your fitness regimen, you are going to have to keep on pushing the envelope. So act on this information today, not tomorrow!
